Sue
Sue is Derek’s wife and Michelle’s friend and neighbour. She is most often found at the kitchen table with Michelle for a cuppa and a gossip. She’s not a local lass but doesn’t let that get in the way of her being part of the neighbourhood fabric.
Without any family of her own, Michelle treats Mick and Michelle’s sons almost her own, and insists on referring to herself “Auntie Sue”. Now as men, the brothers find this amusing, as Sue still treats them like five year olds, although it can be embarrassing in public.
Sue and Mick became best friends with Mick and Michelle after they moved in as neighbours. Sue and Derek have never divulged, even to their closest friends, that the reason they did move was one of tragedy, after the death of their own four year old son, Daniel. Their need to leave the terrible memory behind was so great that they upped sticks to be where no one new about Daniel and therefore couldn’t bring the subject up, even to offer support. This goes some way to explaining Sue’s love for Nick and Jack.
Sue loves men and seems to have a constant burning to be around them. She constantly demands that Derek “pays her attention” at every opportunity, coming up with all kinds of plans to lure him to bed and make her many fantasies come true. Derek usually falls inline, for which he gets a regular ribbing about form the lads. However, if Sue’s burning need clashes with a Newcastle home game, this is when Derek can get creative, causing her untold distress. Sue is usually turned out like a glamourpuss, even just for calling around to see Michelle for a chinwag, in stark contrast to Michelle’s everyday get up.
