Jack Garrett

Jack is the eldest son of Mick and Michelle Garrett. He and his older brother, Michael, are like chalk and cheese in most things, although they share a common interest in their chosen profession of plumbing.

Jack has always been a dreamer. As a child he was quite happy with his own company, particularly if there was nothing going on with the other kids he enjoyed. He was never a loner, he just preferred to get involved with things that didn’t involve rolling in the mud or climbing trees. He loves all things music, cinema and theatre, as well as museums and galleries. As a kid he would  be mesmerised by the song and dance routines of classic musicals, or sat glued to an Ealing Comedy with Michelle. Unlike just about every other Geordie bloke that he knows, Jack has absolutely zero interest in football.

Jack has never been short of girlfriends, but they never seem to last long these days, not since he started passing on nights out on the town, in favour of a trip to the theatre. He gets a bit of stick because of his open desire to discover the arts instead of bouncing down the Bigg Market. Most don’t hide the fact they think that he’s turned to “gay” pursuits, which is an irritation to Mick and a source of great embarrassment for Michael.

Jack’s has confided in his mother that he isn’t attending the plumbing course for heavy pipes that everyone thinks he is, and that he is studying musical theatre. However, his bond with Michelle is being tested by not being able to come clean about his secret, which he needs to do before it comes out and causes an upset.

Actors applying for the role of Jack should be comfortable with some dancing (you won’t need to be pulling Michael Jackson moves) and drag.
